Who are we ?
A commitment to excellence for over 40 years
About 40 years ago, all motorcycle helmets were the same in terms of protection. At the time, our product didn't really stand out. But Mitch Arai, the founder of our brand, wasn't satisfied with this simple average. In 1976, he decided to transform ARAI, not just to improve our helmets, but to make them the best in the world.
The quest for perfection
Mitch Arai made it his mission to make exceptional helmets. He wasn't looking to mass produce helmets or maximize profits. His goal was clear: to provide unmatched protection. A motorcyclist himself, like his father, he understood the vital importance of a quality helmet to rider safety.
With his background in helmet manufacturing, Mitch knew that shell strength was essential to protect against sharp objects and to maintain the helmet’s shape in the event of an impact. He also believed that a strong, round shell would be more effective at deflecting energy during an impact, reducing the direct impact the helmet would have to deal with. This principle, which he recognized early on, is still at the heart of our designs today.
Innovation in the service of security
Mitch Arai understood that the strength of the shell was directly related to its thickness. A uniform thickness offered the best chance of preserving the shape of the helmet and resisting violent angled impacts. He therefore explored innovative methods to produce uniform shells, with a constant thickness, a major technical challenge at the time and still today. However, the choice of bag molding allowed to increase the proportion of fiber compared to resin, thus making the shell stronger.
Our commitment today
At ARAI, we remain true to Mitch Arai’s vision. We never compromise on safety. Every helmet we make is the result of an unwavering commitment to protecting riders around the world. Our mission has not changed: to create the best helmets, so every rider can ride with confidence.
